There is no private property and private ownership in Auroville. Everything belongs to Auroville Foundation.

While Auroville itself was founded in 1968, the Auroville Foundation was established by an Act of Parliament (of India) in 1988. Auroville was considered to be an experiment in human unity and was put under the Ministry of Education (Government of India). The Auroville Foundation acts as a liaison between Indian government and Auroville community. All the enterprises in Auroville, including Upasana are a part of the Foundation.

Conceptually, Auroville belongs to nobody in particular, so the businesses do not belong to the entrepreneurs. The entrepreneurs or executives are managers and planners of the units which they have initiated and they are happy with their status since one of the aims of Auroville is the Joy of possessing nothing.
